About the Role:

Aquila is seeking a Systems Administrator to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The Systems Administrator focuses in a combination of research and system engineering/application efforts focused on the goals of enhancing the capacity and the flexibility of future generations of communications satellites.

There are a few requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
  • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
  • Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.


Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds. Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are unresolved at the helpdesk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including notifications of outages/downtimes.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Linux systems administration
  • Administering work stations on in a testbed/lab environment
  • Virtualization experience
  • DNS, DHCP, Load balancing
  • LAN and VPN experience
  • Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances

Must Have

  • Degree Level: Bachelor’s Degree Yes
  • 10 years – Configuring and maintaining Firewall/VPN configurations
  • 10 Years – Configure and Manage Centralized Logging and Audit Capabilities
  • 10 years – Enterprise Backup Solutions· 10 years – Hardware: Intel/AMD, Cisco, Sun/Oracle, Dell, Apple, EMC, NetApp
  • 10 years – Linux system administration (RedHat + Ubuntu)
  • 10 years – MS Active Directory, LDAP
  • 10 years – SCCM, and Active Directory
  • 10 years – Strong Backup Experience and Proven Ability to Protect Mission Critical Data
  • 10 years – System Administration
  • 10 years – Technologies including DNS, DHCP, Proxy and Load Balancing
  • 10 years – UNIX platform, OSX, Cisco IOS
  • 10 years – Virtualization Technologies to include VM management, Snapshots, SANs and iSCSI Storage Systems
  • 10 years – VM Ware ESXi and Associated Management Systems
  • 10 years – Experience with network test bed systems

Desired Certifications/Nice to Have:

  • Windows Patch Management
  • Windows Server Administration (SCI classified enviornment)
  • Windows Server Platform

Location: Candidate will be onsite 4 days/wk with one remote day.

Travel: Candidate will travel to field sites (domestic) 6-7 times/year to perform system upgrades.
