About the Role:

Aquila is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The Software Engineer will help Advance Lasercom Systems and Operations Group develops, builds, and operates prototype space and airborne lasercom terminals. The technology and the lessons learned from these activities are transferred to operational programs through gold-standard test infrastructure.

There are a few requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
  • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
  • Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.

Responsibilities:

Full lifecycle application development. Designing, coding and debugging applications in various software languages. Software analysis, code analysis, requirements analysis, software review, identification of code metrics, system risk analysis, software reliability analysis. Object-oriented Design and Analysis (OOA and OOD). Software modeling and simulation. Front end graphical user interface design. Software testing and quality assurance. Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation. Supports, maintains and documents software functionality. Integrates software with existing systems. Evaluates and identifies new technologies for implementation. Maintains standards compliance. Implements localization or globalization of software

What You’ll Bring:

  • Looking for a minimum of 2 years workplace experience (post-graduate)
  • Scripting/coding in several languages: Python, C, C++, Java
  • Experience interfacing with hardware
  • Experience with Version Control (SVN or Git) 
  • Experience developing in a Unix environment
  • Familiarity with Object-oriented code design principles
  • Experience using Matlab
  • Software User Interface development
  • Experience applying statistical concepts to data analysis
  • Experience in test automation
  • General familiarity with using/standing up databases
  • Candidate must possess good communications skills: willingness to listen to the needs of engineers and the ability to articulate solutions to engineers in other disciplines. Candidate must be eager to learn new tools to support the testing needs

 

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 years UI design principles and applications
  • 2 years Software Documentation
  • 2 years C/C++ Programming
  • 2 years MATLAB
  • 2 years Object Oriented Software Design and Development
  • 2 years Programing Languages (e.g., Python, C, C++)
  • 2 years Software Design/Development
  • 2 years Configuration Management Tools (GIT, SVN)
  • 2 years Experience working in a UNIX based environment with familiarity of UNIX based scripting
  • 2 years Hardware and Software Integration
  • Familiarity with JIRA / Confluence

Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to automation tools (BigFix, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, CfEngine)
