About the Role:

Aquila is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the vRealize Automation platform to streamline IT service delivery through automation. This role supports hybrid cloud environments, works closely with other infrastructure teams, and ensures scalable, secure, and efficient infrastructure-as-code practices.

There are a few requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen w/ and eligible to obtain a Active Secret Clearance (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
  • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)

Must Have

  • 5 years – Understanding of virtualization, networking, and storage concepts
  • 5 years – Programming
  • 5 years – Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Packer
  • 5 years – Scripting Languages: Perl, Python, Shell Scripting, Powershell.

  • 5 years – vRA 8.x architecture, deployment, and administration

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design, configure, and maintain VMware Aria Automation, VMware Aria Orchestrator (vRO), and Aria Suite components.
  • Automate the provisioning and lifecycle management of infrastructure resources in on-premises and cloud environments (Amazon Web Services / Azure).
  • Develop custom workflows, blueprints, and service catalogs using vRA/vRO.
  • Collaborate with cloud, security, and application teams to integrate vRA with third-party systems and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Maintain high availability and performance of the vRA platform; monitor logs and resolve system issues.
  • Configure, Patch, and monitor ESXI and vCenter.
  • Implement RBAC, security policies, and audit requirements within the automation framework.
  • Document technical procedures, build standards, runbooks, and operational support guides.
  • Stay current with VMware technologies and suggest improvements based on industry best practices.

What You will Bring:

  • Expert in vSphere (ESXI/vCenter)
  • Expert in vRA 8.x architecture, deployment, and administration.
  • Expert in vRO workflows and actions.
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Packer.
  • Expert Knowledge of APIs, RESTful services, and integrations.
  • Solid understanding of virtualization, networking, and storage concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

  • By Your Own Device (BYOD) Allowance Reimbursed up to $1500 for the purchase of a qualified technology device. Eligible after 90 days of employment, and benefit renews every three years.

Clearance: An interim clearance is sufficient for the start of this position.

Onsite Requirement: This position is REMOTE but it is preferred this candidate is within a commutable distance to the office in Lexington, MA. If the candidate isn’t local they may be asked to take up to 4 trips per calendar year to Lexington,MA if the program/project requires it.
