About the Role:

Aquila is seeking a Systems Administrator to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The Systems Administrator will play an active role in the Groups IT infrastructure on the enterprise network within the organization. 


There are a few requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
  • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)

What You’ll Do:

 

Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds. Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are unresolved at the help desk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including notifications of outages/downtimes.

Required skills:

  • Experience in Linux system administration
  • Experience in designing, building, and supporting virtualized environments, VMware preferred
  • Comfortable troubleshooting servers and storage of various platforms
  • Solid understanding of networking (e.g. switching, routing, and firewalls) and networking services/protocols (e.g. DNS, DHCP, HTTP etc)
  • Experience in VMware vSphere 5.0 – 6.5
  • Design software and hardware requirements that meet program specifications
  • Plan expected computer upgrades and new infrastructure hardware procurement
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware issues in dynamic environments
  • Experience with server room equipment installation and cabling
  • Understand and operate within established internal IT policies as appropriate
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required

Preferred Skills:

  • Broad System Administrator experience in diverse OS/network environments (Windows, Linux, Macintosh) (5+ years)
  • Experience with Linux system configuration and patch management tools
  • Experience with integrating Linux within an enterprise environment
  • Experience with enterprise storage systems (iSCSI/NFS, EqualLogic/NetApp, VSAN,etc)
  • Experience with the procurement of hardware and software, including writing requirements, deriving specifications, purchasing, delivery, and installation
  • Experience implementing security measures/best practices

 

Must Have:

  • Currently holds a Secret Clearance (OR a higher clearance)
  • 2 years Configuration Management
  • 5 years Configure and Manage Centralized Logging and Audit Capabilities
  • 5 years Enterprise Backup Solutions
  • 5 years Hardware: Intel/AMD, Cisco, Sun/Oracle, Dell, Apple, EMC, NetApp
  • 5 years Linux Environment
  • 2 years Macintosh and iOS platform(s)
  • 2 years MS Active Directory, LDAP
  • 5 years Strong Backup Experience and Proven Ability to Protect Mission Critical Data
  • 5 years Systems Administration
  • 5 years Technologies including DNS, DHCP, Proxy and Load Balancing
  • 2 years UNIX platform, OSX, Cisco IOS
  • 5 years Virtualization Technologies to include VM management, Snapshots, SANs and iSCSI Storage Systems
  • 5 years VM Ware ESXi and Associated Management Systems
  • 2 years Windows Server Platform

Nice to Have:

  • CompTIA Security+ Certification
  • Red Hat Linux Certification
  • Operating System (OS) platforms (Linux, Mac, Windows)

Applicable Education and Professional Accreditation:

  • Degree in one of the following disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or a related technical discipline
  • Certification(s) in one or more of the following disciplines: Solaris administration, Red Hat, VMWare, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); CompTIA Security+; Linux Professional Institute Certification
  • Any prior military experience is a plus. They will modify the years of experience or the required Bachelor’s Degree if someone has the majority of the technical skills and a military background.
