About the Role:
Aquila is seeking a Software Engineer – Sensor Systems to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The engineer will join a team that designs and develops modern sensor systems and components to enable a ballistic missile defense system.
There are a few requirements for the position:
- Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
- Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
- Reside within 100 miles of Lexington, Massachusetts.
What You’ll Do:
The group is in need of software engineers (5) for the development of advanced sensor control and signal processing systems. The software will be developed within a modern, object-oriented, modular open-systems architecture primarily using C++, Linux, and publish-subscribe middleware. The focus will be primarily on software for controlling radars, but could also extend to telemetry and optical systems.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 3 years of Software/Algorithm Development
- 3 years of C/C++ Programming
- 3 years of Development experience on a Linux platform
- 3 years of Object Oriented Software Design and Development
- 3 years of Middleware, DDS, Publish/Subscribe, IDL
- 3 years of Hardware and Software Integration
Working Knowledge of the Following:
- In-depth knowledge of C++ object-oriented programming with several years of experience applying this knowledge to complex software architectures
- Proven ability to quickly and effectively learn new technologies and programming languages, adapt to new environments and methodologies, and work outside one’s comfort zone
- Experience with modern software development practices (e.g. spiral development), version control systems, debugging tools, and coordination/collaboration tools
- Experience with software development within a Linux/UNIX environment
- Experience with publish-subscribe middleware

Work Schedule: This position is hybrid – The candidate should expect to be onsite 3 days a week on average. Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, MA.
Clearance: Interim secret sufficient to start.
Travel: Not a requirement but if candidate has ability to travel there could be opportunities (domestic/international).
